Our now President’s lewd escapades behind what he thought were closed doors in Access Hollywood‘s 2005 tapes revealed much about our culture in America and set a new president for the way women are treated.  And while while Trump’s behavior brings so much to light, women must either remain victims or change our narrative unless the culture is to change.  

Donald Trump is the yellow canary indicating what is taking place in society.  And what is this?  What he is saying is that sexual assault and unwanted sexual advances have been and continue to be white man’s right and worthy of admiration.  What’s more, is that it is accepted by society, placated by wives, and gentrified by admirers as “locker room talk”.    The Donald just brought all of this to light.  

Did this prevent Donald from being elected to the highest position in the United States?  No.  In fact, 53% of white women voted for Trump in the 2016 Election according to the New York Times, 2016 article.  This is in stark contrast with 32 % of Hispanic women and 6% of African American women.  So, perhaps the more of an attacker a man is, the more likely he is to rise to positions of power? 

I can only surmise that white woman want to remain victims of patriarchy.  Perhaps a version of the Stockhom Syndrome has made white women the way they are.  Have white women been grabbed and yanked around by their crotches for so long that they perceive it as normal?  Perhaps.  Sexual Assualt statistics are mind boggling with 1 out of 6 women in the U.S. a victim of sexual assault.  Sexual Assault Statistics.  But even this can’t be entirely correct because all races of women are abused but not all races condone this behavior.

 Despite these terrible numbers and more wretched crimes, I am here to say that this is not okay.  And neither is the unwanted grabbing of genitalia.  It’s time to change our culture of violence toward women and complacency white women use to shield attackers.  No more excuses.
